Michelle Cantrell

My mission is to help individuals and couples live their lives more fully. While eating disorders, the effects of childhood trauma, and relationships difficulties can feel overwhelming and insurmountable, I believe each person has the inner wisdom and strength to overcome what often have become lifelong patterns. I work with clients to uncover that wisdom and develop their strengths in order to tap into their authentic selves and find a healthier, more fulfilling way of life. I bring to my practice not only my formal education and continued learning, but an insatiable curiosity about the human experience and the belief that we can all experience healing and growth.

In addition to my experience working with eating disorders, I have received training under Pia Mellody in Post Induction Therapy for the treatment of relational trauma and adverse childhood experiences. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and am currently working towards certification in EMDR by the EMDR International Association. When working with couples, I use Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT) and am in the process of becoming an certified EFT therapist.

It is my goal to use my knowledge and experience to help others heal and grow, and achieve a healthier state of being.

I hold a Masters Degree in Community Agency Counseling from George Mason University, and am licensed in the state of Virginia (license number 0701007352) as a Licensed Professional Counselor.
